Election Day 2011

Although all eyes are already on election day 2012, some thoughts as we complete the municipal round of elections in Indiana today.

For the most part once again incumbents will win, perhaps not in landslides, but the power of raising money as an incumbent and therefore the ability to get the word out is substantial.   In conversations on the record and off the record over the last few days very few upsets are in the works today.

Closer to home here in Northwest Indiana watch for Mayor Costas in Valparaiso, Mayor McDermott in Hammond to win easily today.  The close race has always been the City of Portage where I am hoping for an upset win by Republican Jim Snyder over the Democrat incumbent.   Could be a close one, with many of the employees backing the challenger, but the steel unions seriously getting behind the Democrat.

For now we wait, and we'll know more in a couple hours.   Check back later tonite.
