Words to Title Track Song
They call us Diverse City, we’re colorful good
It’s like a freak show in your neighborhood
So, if you wanna praise you can come on down
Cause this freak show’s leaving the ground
Up, up and away, baby we don’t play, maybe you thought you was done for the day
He said, she said, I said this, that you can’t get away from your moment of bliss
Stirring, we’ll lure you in and we’ll make room for the shade of skin
Short ones, tall ones, skinny ones, bigger, love is the gun and we pullin’ that trigger
So you send me and I’ll send you hope in the form of a new tattoo
Mine is the shiny city on a hill and yours, of course, is the colors that fill it
We’ll take you high, we’ll take you higher
Now come to the city where you can praise
If you’re black, if you’re white, if you’re yellow or grey
In the morning, in the night, anytime of day
What’s that place – Diverse City
With curls in your hair and braids on the side
Straight shake’em loose, just come on and ride
We’re a body with parts, like you and me
Together we make diversity
Welcome to Diverse City, we’re colorful good
It’s like a freak show in your neighborhood
So, if you wanna praise you can come on down
Cause this freak show’s leaving the ground
Said we’re Diverse City, we’re colorful goods
It’s just a state of mind, we gonna shine the way that we should, baby
So, if you wanna praise you can come on down
Cause this freak show’s leaving the ground
You bring the heart, I’ll bring the soul
I’ll bring the flag, you bring the pole
We’ll fly it high so the whole world knows
The dream of a king ‘bout to unfold
We ‘bout to do this thing for real
Diverse City got mass appeal
So put your hand in the hand of mine
And we’ll spread this love like dandelions

First Amendment Still Strong
We may have torn down a bunch of other "rights" but it's nice to see that the right to speech is still strong with regards to political signs. I don't like the ACLU, but on this one they got it right.
Valparaiso's sign ordinance stuck down
We've lost our right to give money to whomever we want though.
It's time to strike down McCain Feingold and give us back our right to "speech" with giving money to candidates we agree and support.

Bride To Be Found: Jennifer Wilbanks
Lady that we've all been worried about ... appears to have staged her own kidnapping because she got "cold fee"
Read the Fox News Report
Now they say that they won't press any charges ... I disagree .... she caused the state and local and federal government money ... while they looked for her. She should be charged with conspiracy and fraud ... with a probation offer that includes restitution for all the expenses of the search. It may take the rest of her life to pay, but she made the choice to lie. Why does society say it's OK?

Author predicts the eminent break-up of Canada. He goes on to suggest that some of the provinces would become U.S. states, Quebec would become a separate country, and Ontario and a few other small provinces in the center would keep the Canadian flag as a country.
What are the potential affects?
Oil rich provinces come into the U.S.
Quebec french speaking morons keep to themselves and circle the wagons and stay friendly with the French.
I guess the scandals in Canada are pretty serious. Keep an eye up north.

DF Hedge Project
Anti-growth forces are fighting against developer DF Hedge too. They are arguing against the commissioners allowing a rezone to allow greater density. Now isn't this the developer that created St. Andre and White Thorne Woods? Holy Cow, leave him alone and let him create another great place.
Anti-growth, read Bob Harper friends, are against everything. Maybe they should all move to LaPorte where there are no jobs and no one wants to develop.
Send an email to the commissioners of your support for Don Hedge and his project.
If the anti-growthers keep winning then we'll all have to go back to Lake County where they understand jobs and economic development ... and it looks like Republicans are winning again.

Northwest Indiana RTA
It's all about economic development. We need jobs, we need to grow, or taxes will strangle the economy. Porter County has been asked to step up and show some leadership in the region ... time to do so. Read the Times article today.
Republican party leaders, Mayor Jon Costas, Councilman Williams, and Porter County's new county councilman Jim Burge have pushed to create an economic engine in Porter County.
If Bob Harper holds it up, he will go down as not only anti-growth, but stupid!
Stay on this issue, the politicians are all making it hard to understand.
I'll break down quickly: We need to increase our county income tax to .5 percent so that we have enough money to pay $3.5 million per year to be part of the Northwest Indiana RTA >>> this gets us a seat at the table for the long-term plan >>> Rail to downtown Valparaiso!!!!!
The Governor is getting tired of waiting for Porter County to step up to the plate.

Downtown Beautification Valparaiso
The City has released their downtown designs, review and comment, now the question is how will this project be paid for? Will we move ahead with the Business Improvement District? Will the downtown building owners work together and elect a board and pay an annual fee?
Mayor Costas and the City Council have a selling job to do to get these building owners, the same ones who let their downtown deteriorate, to work together and pay for improvements.

It's hard to be a liberal in the conservative south.
What would you do if you were a democrat, albeit a conservative one, and you were totally out of power?

what exactly is a revival?
Mike Barons says that religious people are on the increase.
I disagree
though evangelicals may be pleased with some recent progress, I say that the world of "the only sin is fundamentalism" is in full force
Go ahead talk to a friend about 'sin' or 'hell'... it won't be a long or comfortable conversation.

Gays take a compromise in Connecticut
So the gay community celebrates a compromise in Connecticut? Each state will now have to wrestle with defining "marriage."
Is marriage a man-woman union?
And all other unions are merely "civil union"
Is marriage a monogomous union?
And all other unions are a little more "open"
Is marriage just for the "fundamentalist religious"
And all other "relativists" agree to civil unions?
Go ahead think down the line, where does this go from here?

Lake County Dems in disarray
It is fun watching the dems self-destruct. In Lake County Indiana yesterday the mayor of the largest city in Northwest Indiana, Gary, resigned his state democratic office and said he is leaving the party and becoming an independant.
Mark my words, we will have a republican US Representative from Lake County within 10 years. This is just the beginning.

Coffee Creek Bologna
Once again the press has been dupped by Lake Eerie Land Company and the Coffee Creek project. I think everyone wants this project to work, so they keep missing the salient details.
Like what?
Like the carpenters union paid too much for the ground!
Like LEL knew that and had to bribe people to get the deal done!
Like LEL is owned by NIPSCO and that means that if they have a large loss, we all pay
for those mistakes in our rates, eventually
I applaude the Post Tribune for trying to dig, but the real story is a lot deeper. Keep it up, and dont let LEL or the carpenters union keep you from the truth.

Appears that your opinion matters more than facts
Instapundit writer Reynolds exposes St. Louis Dispatch writer who suggests that what really matters to him is that he "didn't believe Bush in the first place"
See Instapundit response
See response by Dispatch writer who has such angst at being confronted with the truth.
Let me break it down. The liberal media believes that the Bush administration should step down and go away ... not because the Afganistan and Iraq policies are failing ... No, they are actually working fabulously... They want blood because the way that Bush talked us into the war was to use the WMD's .... which it appears were not as readily available as we thought they were.
Ooops.... It's still working.

Time for a little indignation
I know all i talk about lately is the impact fee proposal. But doggone it ... it isnt fair. For 20 years the citizens of Valparaiso underfnded their sewer and water utilities by arbitrarily holding the user fees down.
What's that do? Well first when you dont have enough money, you stop maintaining things. Like sewer lines, like sewer overflows, like sewer interceptors. Second, when you're short of money, you start relying on "exactions" from the newest users to try and catch up. So years ago they decided that charging $450 was fair for a sewer tap-on fee. Now let's get this straight ... Valparaiso has never tapped a sewer. Never, Never, Never. The contractor always taps it and pays to have it tapped.
The fee was always an "exaction" it was always a nice "bribe" to get a permit.
Now do something .. Jan Dick wants the fee to be $2,900 >>> Do something. Talk to people >>> write the papers .... Do something.
Read an article by impact fee proponents... even they say a full report and study must be complete and affordable housing should be exempt!

More FEES to build for regular people
Wow, I don't know how to say it without being angry. Valparaiso would like to penalize anyone that wants to live in Valpo by charging them the onerous fee of $2,900 just to live in the city limits. Albeit they are calling the fee "impact" ... but the truth of the matter is that it's an "exaction" because the city forgot to budget for improvements over the last 20 years.
So if Valpo residents don't have the money, they just levy it against the new guy right?
That's what I call taxation without representation.
We need calls made to city councilmen ... Jan Dick for sure. He's pushing this one.
Call him at home and let him know your thoughts.
