Mr. President-Designate "please maintain a firm defense"

Although I have posted quite a bit this week on my political blog Porter County Indiana Politics, on the fact that we should learn from President-Designate Obama's campaign and we should also respect the will of the voters ... I am a little frustrated that right off the bat his foreign policy statements are misleading or even pandering:

No word yet on whether this applies to the rest of NATO. From Red State

The only mitigating factor here is that the aide is contradicting the head of state, not the head of the Polish government. So there may be a retreat on this. If not... well.

Obama denies Poland missile vow

US President-elect Barack Obama has not given a commitment to go ahead with plans to build part of a US missile defence system in Poland, an aide says.

He was speaking after Polish President Lech Kaczynski's office said a pledge had been made during a phone conversation between the two men.

But Mr Obama's foreign policy adviser, Denis McDonough, denied this.

We should construct the missile defense shield in Poland, because Russia can't be trusted and they need to see our strength. Remember we won the Cold War because the Russian system of socialism couldn't pay the freight to keep up. This is no time for the Obama team to start waffling or losing their nerve to stand up to tyrants.

I hope that once he is in office his national security advisors will convince him of the value of missile defense. We will have to stay vigilant though.
