Read this article which gives good planning advice for options for new homes.
My thoughts? You can never have too many options, people will spend thousands of dollars on options if we make them simple and don't make them have to "watch" us to keep us honest.
The problem? We don't know our options pricing and we don't have good access to professionals that can advise and counsel our buyers. For example if you want to add a home theater, bring in the home theater expert, but only allow him 30 minutes to get to the point. You don't know enough ... he does ... he can't stop himself from talking ... you can ... the customer is still the most important.
Not offering the option, because it makes the building process easier, doesn't help the buyer!
